Mobile PSA Testing Program
Heart of Australia, It’s A Bloke Thing and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia have partnered to co-deliver mobile PSA blood testing to regional and rural communities in Queensland, with support from the Queensland Government.
Currently, regional and rural men face a 24% higher mortality rate compared to their city counterparts when diagnosed with prostate cancer. This disparity is linked to later diagnoses caused by lower rates of testing and limited access to specialist services – we’re fighting this through providing mobile PSA blood testing onboard our mobile clinic Heart Trucks.

What to Know About the Mobile Prostate Cancer Testing Program
What is PSA blood testing?
PSA stands for Prostate-Specific Antigen, and is a protein made by the prostate gland. This test looks for elevated levels of PSA in your blood, which may signal issues that cause prostate issues, including prostate cancer. Your age, family history, and symptoms are considered alongside your PSA test results to give your GP a comprehensive understanding of whether you may need to be referred for further investigations.
While a PSA test does not diagnose you with prostate cancer, it is an important first step to check for any issues with your prostate.
Why is PSA testing important?
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting Australian men, with around 1 in 5 men at risk of being diagnosed in their lifetime. In the early stages of prostate cancer, many men do not experience any immediate symptoms, or may disregard them as general problems of getting older that aren’t related to cancer. By testing earlier, you can improve your health outcomes by diagnosing and treating an issue before it worsens.
Am I eligible for this program?
All participants who fall within the age demographics listed here are eligible for testing. If you have a family history of prostate cancer, you are eligible for a Medicare-funded PSA test every 11 months. If you do not have an identified risk, you are eligible for a Medicare-funded PSA test every 23 months.
How can I get tested?
To receive PSA blood testing onboard our Heart Trucks, you don’t need a referral or an appointment – all walk-ins are welcome! The only things you need to provide on the day are your Medicare card and the details of your treating GP, so we can send them the results of your test to discuss with you.
I've been tested - what happens next?
You will receive a phone call from us after your appointment, and your results will be sent back to your treating GP for further discussion.
